Straighten garage door strut.

Purchase a strut that is 1 inch shorter than the door width. Purchase four strut clips if you have a wood door or two strut clips per stile for steel doors. When we add one or more struts to your door we factor in the additional weight. Place the wood on the distended side of the door and tap it with the hammer.

These struts can be straightened by locking the door removing the strut and straightening it. Doors over 10 feet wide usually have at least one strut across the top panel. Struts provide additional support for the garage door panel s and help prevent bending of the panel s. Five star doors adds an additional strut to all our garage door installs.

One of the most simple fixes you can do is hammering out the bend in the door. Stiles are the metal braces that run from the top to the bottom of a door section. Struts can be used on metal vinyl and wood garage doors. Measure the width of your door with a tape measure.

If you notice that your top garage door panel bends in the middle when. Most residential doors have a strut pre installed at the top of the top panel on the garage door. A 16 wood door should have 3 or more struts but insulated steel doors should have at least two. This will often leave a one to three inch gap in the center of the top section.

Hammer out the bend. You ll need a 2x4 of wood and a rubber mallet. Struts can be installed on any of the panels.
